The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on August 10, 2026, notified regarding the Formation of new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh – Assignment of Lead Bank Responsibility.
The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh has formed five new districts—Sham, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass—vide Gazette Notification SG-LD-E-27042026-1712 dated April 27, 2026. Accordingly, State Bank of India (SBI) has been assigned Lead Bank responsibility for all five newly created districts, with the following District Working Codes: Sham – 02Z, Nubra – 03B, Changthang – 03A, Zanskar – 03C and Drass – 03D. The codes are specifically clarified to distinguish numerals from alphabets. There is no change in the Lead Banks of the other districts in the UT of Ladakh.
